Blog topic # 2: An Eggs-cellent Way to Plan

I think that one thing that our team wasn't able to do was to pick out a leader. The whole team was focused on getting the main goal done, which was to design an "egg-protection device," the rest was just a blur. I guess because we were too conscious of the time constraint that everyone was just brainstorming for ideas on how to build the protection device. We sort of multi-tasked between getting the design done and fulfilling the rest of the objectives as well.

Overall, I think that we weren't really able to go through all the steps in the planning process quite thoroughly. All that I could remember is that everyone was just working towards one goal, though we also had an alternative design on hand just in case we might need it. It's interesting because when we finally had the egg and the materials in our possession, it didn't look exactly like how we designed it on paper. There were some additions and adjustments that were made that wasn't in the original design that we planned.

Though we had very limited time and resources, and even if our egg broke (in the end), I think that our group did pretty well. We were able to make fast decisions and we worked well as a team.

  1. hi Angelica,

even my group were the same(including me) which was focusing too much in the goal. But i was happy the way protection device turned out to be even though we failed.

  2. Hi Angelica,
our group had the same problem, we didn't have a real leader, and probably that's why we failed. In addition, we didn't have enough time to evaluate our final design:-(((

  3. Picking a leader is difficult when choosing one out of a group of strangers because it is unnatural. When extra credit points are on the line for a better grade I guess anything can happen.

  4. Hey! Our group also had the same problem. It's hard to make the base that we planned when we get the materials. We choose another design at last. Although we didn't get the 10 points, we still learn more about planning through it.

  5. I think most group if not all lack of leadership. Due to the limited amount of time for this project our group mainly focus on the design & building the actual device instead of anything else.

  6. It's interesting how a final product can sometimes look different than the plan, but sometimes that's what happens and what we need to do in various part of our lives - to adjust and change things along the way. Did you like the new design more than the planned design, or were you disappointed that the finished product was different?
Our group did not pick a leader either, and although it probably would have been better to have one, it would be hard to pick one because we don't know each other well and many of us had strong opinions and wanted to lead. At the time it felt like we got through the project well overall, except for some minor problems, but in retrospect we could have done some things better, such as selecting one official leader to guide us throughout the planning and building process. It was a good learning experience!

  7. I know it was really hard to put all thoughts together. I know is hard to focus all the management steps in such little time, i feel like it took up a part of me it made it harder to concentrate on the project. Anyways it was a definitely a fun class event.
